Public Safety Reserve Fund Proposals Approved by NRP Policy Board

On August 18, 2003 the NRP Policy Board passed a resolution dedicating up to $1 million of NRP's Phase II revenues to "community oriented public safety activities."

Eligibility and Selection Criteria were approved by the Board on February 23, 2004 and distributed to neighborhoods on February 26. Responses to the Request for Proposals were due on April 1.

Fifty-seven of the 67 neighborhood organizations participating in the NRP were submitters or parts of collaboratives that submitted 22 proposals to NRP for funding consideration. A panel of distinguished and experienced experts in the public safety field reviewed the proposals and reduced the $ 2,196,247 requested to the $1 million available.

Proposals in every police precinct were funded and the $999,942 approved by the Policy Board will provide 25,088 hours of police service to the neighborhoods of the city. Information on the proposals supported, and the activities that will be funded, is now available on the NRP's Web site at www.nrp.org/R2/AboutNRP/PB/PBAgenda2004/StaffReps/attachmentb.pdf. The successful proposals were, by precinct:

Precinct 1: Cedar Riverside, Downtown East, Downtown West, Elliot Park
Precinct 2: Holland et. al., Logan Park, Sheridan/St. Anthony West, Southeast Como/Marcy Holmes
Precinct 3: Bancroft et. al., Phillips, Longfellow/Seward
Precinct 4: Cleveland et. al., Folwell/Jordan, Near North/Harrison,
Precinct 5: Armatage et. al., CARAG et. al., Whittier/Stevens Square.
