January 27, 2006 - NRP and the Center for Nonprofit Management at the University of St. Thomas will select one neighborhood to participate in the Spring 2006 Commmunity Leadership Institute (CLI).
NRP is sending out application forms and letters explaining the program to all NRP recognized neighborhood organizations. Topics covered in the intense program include asset-based community development, financial management, community organizing, meeting facilitation, conflict management, fiduciary duties of boards, and more.
On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, NRP will host an informational session from 6:30-8:00 p.m. to discuss the opportunity and answer any questions. The meeting will be held in the second floor conference floor at the Crown Roller Mill (105 5th Ave. S.) Applications or letters of intent will be due Friday, Feb. 24, 4:30 p.m. at the NRP office, 105 5th Ave. S. #425, Minneapolis, MN 55401.
There is no cost to the neighborhood to participate in the program, but the selected neighborhood will have logistical and student recruitment responsibilities, including:
- Recruiting 20-30 participants including at least half of the neighborhood organization's board.
- Recruiting emerging leaders, particularly from otherwise under-represented groups.
- Making arrangements for food and securing a location for holding classes.
- Ensuring regular attendance and participation by all students.
Stevens Square neighborhood was the first to go through this structure of CLI, which has been training individuals since 2001 with University of St. Thomas. A glimpse of the neighborhood's experience is provided in another article on this page.
