Paint the Pavement -- the Intersection of Art and Community

In August of 2011, the Corcoran Neighborhood Organization and Corcoran Filmmaker Phillip O'Toole created "Paint the Pavement -- the intersection of art and community." Phillip and his camera were "embedded" with the block club, project artist, and the 100+ volunteers who designed and painted a pavement mural at the intersection of East 34th Street and 19th Avenue South in the Corcoran neighborhood of Minneapolis in August 2011. The video explores the community process of creating the project, and the impact the experience had on participants and the neighborhood.

CNO's 2011-2012 public art projects were funded, in part, by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. The City of Minneapolis helped support CNO's 2011 graffiti prevention murals and landscaping work, and the Valspar Foundation continues to provide paint for all of CNO's public art and graffiti prevention projects. Additional support is provided by the McKnight Foundation, the Neighborhood Revitalization Program, and individual donations.
