When the Fulton Farmers Market (FFM), sister market to the successful Kingfield Farmers Market experienced a "second year slump", neighbors rallied and urged the Fulton Neighborhood Association (FNA) to support the market.
FNA agreed - finding the market an invaluable community asset and an opportunity for outreach. In addition to providing fresh, local produce options to the residents of the neighborhood and all of southwest Minneapolis, the market offers weekly musical entertainment by local musicians and community resources from a variety of agencies. Recent additions include a weekly children's story time and a free lending library.
FNA plans to use Neighborhood Priority Plan funds to assist the market with promotion and with further engaging the community. Proposed activities include standard and innovative marketing techniques such as: banners, child-designed yard signs, interactive art projects that "build" throughout the summer, and a larger scale object that is an attention draw. These efforts have the financial support of the parent Kingfield Farmers Market, and will allow FNA to solidify the image and presence of the market in the community.
On April 12, 2013, the Fulton Farmers Market Support became the first Neighborhood Priority Plan approved by the Minneapolis City Council.
